GARBER, PAUL H.

TOWN LISTING: MIDLAND PARK

Paul H. Garber, 68 passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014, after an extended illness. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Jackie (nee Fain); brother Dennis and wife Barbara, nephews; Daniel and wife Chrissy, and Brian and wife Erica, his grandnieces; Jessica and Holland, grand nephews; Jack, Sebastian and Ezra, Aunt Lois and Uncle Ron Kaelin, sister-in-law Judy Schnicker and niece Taylor Caja. He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Edith.

After graduating with a BA in psychology from Westminster College, Paul taught at Central School in Glen Rock where his students thought of him as one of their favorites. He joined the US Army where he served as an unarmed medic in the combat zone during the Vietnam War. After his service, he was a vocational counselor at the Vera Institute of Justice in New York and then a supervisor of training for the newly created NYC Off-Track Betting Corporation. For the next 30 years he was with Citigroup out of New York City where he applied his skills both domestically and internationally. Through the years he worked as a human resources specialist, extensively involved in training, organizational development, succession planning and staffing. After retiring from Citibank, he did numerous consulting and training programs, and then became a licensed NJ Real Estate Agent selling and leasing commercial property.

In addition to his work, he got an advanced degree from New York University, and he was a member of the Community Church of Glen Rock. He was an extensive traveler, photographer and writer and he would share the experience to the delight of family and friends. He was a member of the Ridgewood Camera Club and he loved nature and was often greeted by the chipmunks, squirrels and birds that loved to visit while he was on the patio. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his warm and genuine congeniality. Arrangements will be made in early June for a service in Glen Rock, New Jersey where he grew up.
