Sophie (Zofia) Modrzynska of Clifton, NJ, entered eternal life on Thursday, November 22nd, surrounded by her loving family, she was 98. Zofia was born in Johnstown, PA on October 12th, 1920, to Anthony and Aniela (Halka) Kopec. As a small child she was taken to Poland, where her father would have better opportunities for work. After Poland was invaded in WWII, she and her family were taken to work camps in Germany, where they were held for several years. After the war she married Stephen Modrzynski, whom she had come to know in the camp. They were married over forty years at the time of his death in 1986. Sophie returned to the United States in 1964 with her family. She had worked in some of the factories but was predominately a proud home maker. Sophie was an avid reader and a long time parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Passaic. She was also a member of the Aria Chorus #303, and one of the founding members. Sophie is survived by her four beloved sons, Bogden and his wife Mary Modrzynski, Tadeus and his wife Krystyna Modrzynski, Christopher and his wife Jadwiga Modrzynski, and Mirek. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and her sister Lekodia of Clifton, and Waleria of Poland.
