Walter "Nookie" Nieglos of East Rutherford, entered eternal life on “National Pierogi Day,” Saturday, October 9th, 2021, he was 87. Walter was born in Wallington, NJ on January 22nd, 1934, to Walter and Maria (Mazur) Nieglos. He was a graduate of the East Rutherford Class of 1954. He was also a powerful running back for the Wildcats, and the leading rusher for two consecutive years. This earned Walter his induction into the New Jersey High School Hall of Fame. In 1956 Walter enlisted into the United States Army where he served with the 87th Infantry as a medical aid man and was on the Army Special Services football team. Walter was married to Mary Ann Paluch on April 23rd, 1960; and they have been married for over 60 years. Walter had worked at the Matheson Gas Products Co., in East Rutherford for over 36 years. Walter’s greatest joy was spending weekends at his home in Pennsylvania with family and nature. Walter is survived by his devoted wife Mary Ann, his beloved daughter Leanne Mattingly and her husband Mark. Walter is also survived by his cherished grandson Tristan Mattingly. Walter was predeceased by his 5 brothers Joseph, Steven, John, Thomas, Edward Nieglos and his 4 sisters Genevieve Petty, Frances Steiger, Josephine Humenik and Claire Flaherty. Walter will be entombed at the mausoleum at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 1 Outwater Lane, Saddle Brook, NJ.
