The Honorable Mark W. Tomko, former Mayor and a lifelong resident of Wallington, NJ, entered eternal life, Wednesday, June 29th, 2022, he was 66. Mark was born in Passaic, NJ on April 10th, 1956 to Stephen and Dorothy (Mako) Tomko. Mark worked for the County of Bergen, first in the Grants Office 1979-1981, Treasurers Office in 1981, and Chief Clerk in the County Clerks Office 1981 to 2019. He served in countless positions in the Wallington Fire Department and the Borough of Wallington’s Government. His accomplishments are listed at the end of the obituary. Mark is survived by his dear sister Susan Tomko of Rohnert Park, California and his sister-in-law Roberta Tomko of Palm Harbor, FL. He was predeceased by his brother Stephen R. Tomko, Jr. on December 24th, 2016. Visiting Wednesday, July 13th, 2-5 & 7-9 pm, Warner-Wozniak Funeral Service, 80 Midland Avenue, Wallington, NJ 07057. The Wallington Fire Department will hold a service at 7:00pm. Immediate family and friends will gather at the funeral home, Thursday, July 14th, 9am. At 10:30am, a walking procession from the funeral home to the Park Row Fire House will commence; followed by an 11am funeral service at the Park Row Fire House. Mark will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 1 Outwater Lane, Saddle Brook, New Jersey. Mark's sister Susan has requested no flowers please. In 2000, Mark became a life member of Park Row Hose Co. 3. His journey began with the Wallington Fire Department in 1972, by joining as a Charter Member of the Wallington Junior Fire Department. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1972, Captain 1974-’75, and was formally admitted to the Park Row Hose Co. #3 in February of 1975. He served as a trustee in 1976, Vice President in 1977, President in 1978. He was Chaplain from 1980 to present, Treasurer 1984-1990, Secretary 1991 to present. Served as Lieutenant 1979; Captain 1980, 1981, 2005; Engineer 1998, 207-2010, Asst. Engineer 1985-1997, 1999-2006, 2014, 2020; Assistant Chief 1987, Deputy Chief 1988, Chief of Department 1989. He served on the Anniversary Committee for Hose Co. 3’s 60th anniversary and as Chairman for the 75th, 85th, 100th anniversary celebrations. Mark was on the 1985 Hahn Truck Committee, 2011 Pierce Truck Committee, and chaired all committees of Hose Co. 3. Mark was admitted to the Wallington F.D. Emergency Squad in 1982 and was an acting member 1982-1991 and 1997-2000. He also served as President in 1998, Secretary 1983-1991 and the Truck committee in 1990. He was Co-Chairman of the Emergency Squad 50th Anniversary Committee in 1987. Elected Honorary Member of the Squad in 2000, and Honorary Member of Wallington Engine Co. 202 in 2013. Mark served on the Anniversary Committees of Engine Co. 202 for the 75th and 100th Anniversary, and the 100th Anniversary Committee in 2001 for Garfield Fire Co. 2; and the 100th Anniversary Committee in 2003 for Garfield Fire Co. 3. Mark was the President of the Wallington Fire Department 2020, Secretary 1980-2010, Treasurer 1998-2019, Chaplain of the Fire Dept 1977 to present. He was the Memorial Service Committee Chairman 1977 to present, Chairman of the Grave Marker Committee 1985 to Present. He was a member of the Wallington Exempt Firemen’s Association 1982 to present, and served Secretary 1982 to 1999, Assistant Secretary 2000-2002; Wallington Fireman’s Relief Association Representative, Vice President 1998-2001, President 2002 to present. He was a Life Member of the NJ State Firemen’s Association, NJ State Exempt Firemen’s Association 1982, Life Member, member of the Memorial Committee, Bergen County Exempts Committeeman 1988-1993, Life Member Bergen Passaic Exempt Firemen’s League Secretary 1991-1996. Life Member NJ & NY Volunteer Firemen’s Association, South Bergen Fire Chiefs Association 1987 to present, Vice President 1993-1994, President 1995-1996, Chaplain 2014 to Present, Trustee 2017 to present and a committee member in 2008. The South Bergen Zone 2 Coordinator 1999–2012, Life Member of the South Bergen Fire Chiefs, C.R.E.W. Pavlick Koster Post 2640 1973-1978, Junior Vice Commander and Commander; a Charter Member and Trustee of the Parish Nursing Program of Wallington 1995-2000; AARP Chapter of Wallington, Wallington High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee, 2014 Inductee to the Hall of Fame. He was a former member of the Slovak Zion Lutheran Church and President of the Church Council 1977 to 1990, Wallington Presbyterian Church Board of Elders 2010-2018. Chairman of the United Way Campaign 1984-1985, United Way Regional Board of Trustees 1985, The Wallington Centennial Committee in 1994, Chairman of the Centennial Parade and Street Fair 1994, and the Wallington Memorial Day Parade Committee 1995 to Present, past Grand Marshall of Pulaski Day Parade, and a member of the Wallington Historical Society.

All fire departments are invited to attend at any time during the public viewing. The Wallington FD Service will take place at 7pm. Fire Apparatus to enter off Midland Ave / River Road, Garfield head south on Midland Ave and drop personnel off in front of Warner Funeral Home 80 Midland Ave Wallington, NJ. Parking for apparatus will be located at the Wallington High School 234 Main Ave, Wallington. Shuttle will be available for only drivers of apparatus.
Thursday 7/14/22 Funeral Services 11am Park Row Firehouse
The public and visiting fire departments are invited to attend the Funeral Service at the Park Row Firehouse 70 Park Row which will commence at 11am. Road Closures will be in place in the area. General public wishing to attend the funeral, can respond to the parking lot on the side of the Park Row Firehouse 70 Park Row, Wallington.
Parking for Fire Apparatus and public will be available at the rear of Wallington High School (234 Main Ave, Wallington). There will be no parking near the Park Row Fire House.
Fire Apparatus and public please enter off Pulaski Ave / Alden St and stage at the Wallington High School 234 Main Ave; in the rear parking lot. All uniformed personnel will be staged along Adamson St from the Park Row Firehouse to Reservoir Ave.
All fire departments attending please wear Class A Uniform and please bring chiefs vehicles due to limited parking.
