Jozef Poweska, of Wallington, surrounded by his loving family, entered eternal life on Wednesday, February 22nd, 2017, he was 60. Jozef was born in Jarocin, Poland on February 4th, 1957 to Wojciech and Stefania (Surowaniec) Poweska. He married the love of his life Halina Butryn on April 23, 1984 in Poland. They came to the United States on April 23, 1986. Josef has worked as a professional mason throughout the area and is known to many as "Joe the Mason." He has been a dedicated Wallington resident and has spent countless hours volunteering to make the Community better. Anyone living in Wallington, or entering Wallington on Midland Avenue from Garfield, has seen or appreciated the large "Welcome to Wallington" sign and Jozef's hard work. He was also instrumental at the other end of town where the "Bell" is masonry mounted and sits along the River by the Gazebo. Jozef was also a very dedicated family man, he enjoyed working in the garden, fishing when he had time and keeping himself busy by helping others. Jozef is survived by his beloved wife Halina, his devoted son Slawomir and his cherished daughter Beata Grodzicki and her husband Stanislaw. Jozef is also survived by his dear father Wojciech, living in Poland, his sister Maria and three brothers Marian, Franciszek and Czeslaw. Jozef was predeceased by his brother Jan. Visiting 2-4 and 7-9pm Sunday, February 26th at Warner-Wozniak Funeral Service, 80 Midland Ave, Wallington. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10am, Monday, February 27th, at Holy Rosary Church, Wall Street, Passaic.
