December 7, 1920 — February 17, 2014

John Stanley Wozniak was born on December 7, 1920 in Reading, PA. As a toddler, he traveled with his family to Poland where he spent his childhood and received his early education. In Nazi occupied Poland, he joined the resistance forces and fought in the Polish Underground Army Armia Krajowa (AK) for the duration of the war. In 1947, he returned to the USA, where he lived in Manhattan & Brooklyn before moving to New Jersey.
Immediately upon his arrival to the USA, he embraced the idea of creating a patriotic organization focused on the preservation of the Polish heritage, culture, language, recent & distant history. In 1948, he became a Co-Founder of the Polish American Youth Association, PAYA (Zwiazek Mlodziezy Polskiej, ZMP) in Passaic, NJ where he served uninterruptedly in different capacities (from Secretary to President and Honorary President) his entire life.
In 1954/55, PAYA created a Polish Supplementary School known as the Adam Mickiewicz School. In 1960, he was elected as Vice-President of the Polish Supplementary School Council of America. Since 1964, through re-elections, he continued his mission as President of this organization for the next 41 years. He was instrumental in creating the network of Supplementary Schools in 7 Eastern States which currently has 65 schools in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Florida. He dedicated his entire life to the patriotic formation of generations of young hearts and minds. In 1986, he served as a Grand Marshall of the Pulaski Day Parade in Manhattan. He also received numerous honors and awards during his lifetime including special designations from the Polish Government.
He married Stella Kopec in 1950. Soon after Barbara was born, the family moved from Passaic to Wallington where he spent the remainder of his life.
He advanced his formal education at the Newark College of Engineering in Newark, NJ. He worked as a Tool Designer at several locations including Curtis Wright but spent most of his career at Presto Lock in Garfield, NJ.
John is predeceased by his wife Stella in 1993 and survived by his daughter Barbara G. Lent and his son-in-law James W. Lent.

W Polsce czworka rodzenstwa spedzila dziecinstwo i uczeszczala do szkol.
Spotkanie z ojcem nastapilo dopiero w roku 1947, kiedy pan Jan powrocil do Stanow Zjednoczonych.
