John A. Hartos, formerly of Wallington, entered eternal life on April 14th, 2020, he was 80. John was born in Hackensack, NJ on February 16th, 1940 to Paul and Mary (Fenick) Hartos. John was known to his friends as “Johnny”. He graduated from Wallington High School. After high school John proudly answered the call of his country and joined the United States Army. He married his beloved wife Margaret Fitzgerald on September 19, 1964. He had worked for many years in maintenance at the Meadowlands Racetrack before retiring. Prior to that he had worked as a dispatcher for the Wallington police department. John had been a Volunteer Fireman in Wallington with Truck Company 201 for 26 years achieving the rank of Captain. He was a lifetime member of the Kearny Elks Club where he had served as Exalted Ruler. In his free time, John enjoyed hanging out at the firehouse, barbecuing, playing the lottery, frequenting the local A&P where he was known as the ‘unofficial ‘ mayor of Wallington. He loved talking to everyone he came across. After moving to Toms River you could find him at his favorite local deli. He loved reading his daily newspaper and any military type book.
John is survived by his beloved children and their spouses: Tracey and Mark Ragusa, Thomas Hartos and Christopher and Jonathan Hartos. He is also survived by his dear twin sister Paulette Sudol, his beloved grandchildren Nicole, Jake, Joseph, Thomas, Brendan and his great grandson Mason. He is also survived by loving family and many dear friends.
A memorial visitation will be held 3 - 6 PM, Saturday, August 15th, 2020 at Warner-Wozniak Funeral Service, 80 Midland Ave., Wallington, NJ.
