Johanna Harowicz, 86 of Fair Lawn, NJ passed away from complications of Alzheimer’s disease on January 21, 2018. Born in Paterson, NJ on May 13, 1931 to the late John and Josephine (Lipnik) Dziedziak. She was the youngest of 7 children. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Leonard F. Harowicz and her brothers and sisters, Joseph Dziedziak, George Dziedziak, Mary Mella, Helene Orlovsky, Claire Sobkowicz and Theresa Sattleberger.
Following her marriage to Lenny, they settled in Garfield, NJ and a few years later built their home in Fair Lawn, NJ. Johanna, (Joanie) retired from the Fair Lawn School System, with over 30 years of service. She worked part time in the cafeteria while her children were in school and later became a para professional, working with disabled children. She always showed love and compassion for her special students as they held a big place in her heart. She enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Fair Lawn Senior Center, and traveling. She leaves to mourn her children, Bruce Harowicz and his wife Sally-Ann Calcaterra of West Hartford, CT. Her devoted daughter Denise Harowicz, of Saddle Brook, NJ and, her nieces Debra Mella Ciliento, of Lodi, NJ and Janet Sobkowicz of the Township of Washington, NJ. She also leaves her grandchildren, Morganne Vogel of Saddle Brook, NJ, Ashley Furstein of Southington, CT and her spouse Shawna Bergeron, Amy Furstein of West Hartford, CT and her great grandsons Dante Arroyo and Emanuel Sepulevda of West Hartford, CT. Joanie, never tired of spending time with her grandchildren, who affectionately called her Babci. She always enjoyed a good card game with them and taught each one of them how to play Pokeno. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday January 27, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m at Warner-Wozniak Funeral Service, 80 Midland Avenue, Wallington NJ, 973-779-4664. A funeral mass will follow at 12:00 p.m.at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 7 Parker Avenue, Passaic, NJ. Interment will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery in South Hackensack NJ.
