James Slezak of Wallington, NJ, entered eternal life on November 27, 2024; he was 71 years old. James was born in Passaic to Henry and Marie Slezak, nee Thomas, on October 1, 1953. Jim, as he was known by friends and family, was one of 6 children: Donald, Tom, Joan (Decd), Roy (Decd), and Gary (Decd).
After graduating from Passaic High School, Jim started working in the insurance field; the bulk of his career was spent working for the Slovak Catholic Sokol in Passaic.
His true calling came later in life when he became the athletic director of Paterson Catholic High School. During his tenure, he was able to help hundreds of students pursue their athletic careers and further their education.
Jim enjoyed helping his community; Jim was a dedicated coach for the Wallington Little League, as well as serving as a board member. He also served as a co-director and coach for the Passaic-Clifton C.Y.O. basketball league. He was also a long-standing Wallington Board of Education member, where he always fought for what was the best for the students. Jim was a member of the Hillside S.A.C., where he also served as president.
Throughout his life, Jim was also a devoted supporter of the Passaic Fire Department, where he was very influential in the naming of Griffin-Latona Square and the rededication of Latona Griffin Park in the City of Passaic.
Jim is survived by his children, Brian and his wife Rosa, Jim and his wife Valerie, Alycin, and Caitlyn. He is further survived by his grandchildren Alia, Stephen, Samantha, Aiden, Sofia, Julie his former wife and many nieces and nephews.
