Helena Baczyk of Garfield, died on Feb 19th, she was 83. Helena was born in Zambrow, Poland on June 20th, 1930 to Hipolit and Apolonia Modzelewski. In 1940 Helena was sent to Siberia by the Soviet Gulag, where she spent five years in a work camp, and was liberated in 1945. Helena married Lucjan Baczyk who is predeceased. Helena came to the United States in 1974. She lived in Passaic, moving to Garfield twenty two years ago. Helena had owned two restaurants the Amber Bar in Passaic for ten years, and the Polonez Tavern in Clifton for fifteen years, retiring 22 years ago. In addition to knitting and sewing, Helena enjoyed cooking for her family. She is survived by her loving and devoted children, Lech and his wife Joanna Baczyk and her daughter Jolanta and her husband Wojciech Wojcik. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren, and her sister Celina Goralczyk of Poland. She was predeceased by her beloved son Wojciech Baczyk.
