Eugene W. Dednam, a lifelong resident of Hackensack, NJ, entered eternal life on April 5th, 2022, he was 100 years old. Eugene was born in Hackensack on March 14th, 1922 to Porter Dednam and Cecelia Wright Dednam and was their only child. He was known to the family as “Gene.” His middle name, Walker, was in honor of his maternal grandfather and maternal uncle. On March 6th, 1943, at the age of 21, he was proudly inducted into the United States Army, and officially joined WWII. He served with honor and distinction for the 4043rd Quartermaster Truck Company. He served in the European Theater of War, six campaigns; the Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France and Rome-Arno, earning the EAME Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal and Good Conduct. Gene returned to Hackensack after the war and embarked on a career at Macy’s in New York City. He loved fashion and was a sharp dresser. While working in the city he cultivated a passion for jazz which he shared with cousins and friends. In his later years he loved walking, gardening and tending to his backyard. He is survived by cousins Betty C. Cobb, Edward C. Mims, Dorris Wright, Wally Q. Crosby, Victoria C. Brown, William Truesdale, and Walter Truesdale, other family members and friends. A funeral procession will leave Warner-Wozniak Funeral Service, 80 Midland Avenue, Wallington, NJ 07057 at 10:30am.
