Elizabeth Louise Janssen, 88, of Hillsdale, died peacefully on Sunday December 2, 2018. She was born in Middletown, New York to Marjorie Murray and Peter Hayden. She was predeceased by her husband Norman Janssen. She is survived by her three children, Halleck Janssen, Elizabeth Janssen and Jennifer Janssen. Also, proud grandmother of Analee and Owen Graig.

Elizabeth attended Wellesley College and later graduated from The University of Wisconsin in Madison where she majored in speech and theater, there she met Norman Janssen. Elizabeth, better known as "Betty Lou," taught first and second grade at Meadowbrook School until retirement. She and Norman were instrumental in founding a nursery school program at the Hillsdale United Methodist Church. Norman & Betty Lou volunteered for years in various capacities including many years delivering "Meal on Wheels," and volunteer services at Pascack Valley Hospital in Westwood.

A memorial service celebrating Betty Lou's life will be held at the Hillsdale United Methodist Church, at 349 Hillsdale Avenue, Hillsdale, NJ, Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 4:30 pm, a short gathering will follow at the church. Condolences may be sent to 110 Large Avenue in Hillsdale, NJ 07642. Donations may be made to the Hillsdale United Methodist Church in Hillsdale, NJ 07642
