Daniel Emil Szpyt, Sr., formerly of Wallington, NJ and currently of New Port Richey, FL., entered eternal life on January 19th, 2021, in Trinity, Florida, he was 79. Daniel was born in Passaic, NJ on April 19th, 1941, to Emil and Sophie (Sitarz) Szpyt. He proudly served in the United States Navy. Daniel worked for UPS, retiring as a manager at the Secaucus facility. After retirement he had spent several years living in Texas, then moving to New Port Richey, FL. He has been a member of the American Legion in New Port Richey, and has been an active member of AMVETS, where he helped with the school supply programs, Toys for Tots and other programs assisting members of the community. In February of 1967 Daniel entered Wallington Truck Company #1. He rose through the ranks becoming a Lieutenant in 1971, Captain in 1972, 2nd Assistant Chief in 1983, 1st Assistant Chief in 1984 and in 1985 became Chief of the Department. He is also a life member of the South Bergen Fire Chiefs Assoc., and a Life Member of the NJ State Exempt Firemens Assoc. Daniel was also a member of the Crew Chiefs Mutual Aid Association, the Wallington Exempt Firemens Assoc., Auxiliary Fireman of Wallington, Golden Horns Ex Chiefs Club and in 1994 he served on the 100th Anniversary Committee of Truck Co. 1. Daniel is survived by his dear wife Mary Paul, his devoted children Susan and her husband Michael Franco, Daniel Jr, and his wife Theresa Szpyt, Corinne and her husband Todd Miller, and Nicole Lynn Young. He is survived by his brother Robert and his wife Gail Szpyt; as well as his former wife Mary Ann Banasiak. Daniel is also survived by his four cherished grandchildren Anthony Franco, Nicholas Franco, Jessica Szpyt and Brendan Miller. Visiting 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm, Monday, January 25th, Warner-Wozniak Funeral Service, 80 Midland Ave. Wallington, NJ. Due to the ongoing COVID crisis, a private US Navy Military Honors Service will be held. Daniel will be laid to rest at the Brigadier General William C.
