Charles Peter Serwin entered eternal life on October 28, 2024, he was 89. Charles was born in Passaic, on September 23, 1935, to Peter and Mary Serwin (Buick). Charles was raised in Wallington and graduated from St. Mary's High School class of 1953. He was a Drum Major for the Holy Name Cadets award-winning marching band. His higher education was just a few credits short of a Bachelors Degree with credits from Duquesne University, Seton Hall and Bloomfield College. In 1958, Charles enlisted in the United States Air Force. In June of 1961, Charles married the love of his life Martha Jaskot, at the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church in Wallington . The newlyweds began their 63 year marriage stationed in West Hampton Beach, Long Island . After being honorably discharged by the United States Air Force, Charles and Martha returned to Wallington where they began raising a family. Charles was a charismatic,honest man of many talents.
Affectionately known as ‘Charming Charlie’, he was a trusted confidante, provider, protector and superhero. He worked numerous jobs throughout his life and finally retired in his 80s. The bulk of his career was spent in the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department as a Senior Investigator with the Missing Persons Division. He was a member of both The Police Honor Legion and P.B.A. He loved to travel, having been to 37 countries over the span of his life and was the President of Meadowlands Travel Service in East Rutherford.
After retiring from the police force he and his wife relocated to Naples, FL where Charlie joined the Knights of Columbus. A proud member for over 30 years,Charlie served as both a Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator. Never one to sit still, he obtained his license in Community Management and went on to manage nine communities encompassing 1800 homes. After returning to New Jersey in 1997, Charles continued working as a property manager for multiple communities including The Meadows, Country Walk of Lake Ridge and The Reserve for the Coke’s organization until his 80’s. Very generous with his time and talents, he raised funds for various charities, volunteered with his parish and ran countless bus trips for local church and high school groups throughout his life.
Charlie loved God, his family, friends and country-in that order.
Charles is survived by his faithful wife of 63 years, Martha, his devoted children, Barbara Dalonges and her husband Frank of Brick, NJ,Lisa Serwin of Malibu, CA,Leslie Murgolo and her husband Nicholas of Barnegat, NJ, Linda Serwin Marvin of Brick, NJ, his cherished grandchildren Brittany Dalonges, Skyler Dziemidowicz and her husband Emil, and Michael Marvin, his brother, Roland Serwin and his wife Karen of Point Pleasant Beach, NJ,four nephews and a niece.
He is predeceased by his parents Peter and Mary Serwin, as well as his sister Kathleen Serwin.
