FAIRVIEW – Arnold Ruf, 84, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Thrive at Montvale in Montvale, NJ. He previously lived in Lagrangeville, NY and Fairview, NJ. Born in Zusenhofen, Germany on January 22, 1939, he was the son of the late Josef Ruf and Maria Magdalena Ruf (Siedler). Arnold completed his education and machinist apprenticeship in Germany. He was a steam turbine specialist for General Electric Co. in North Bergen NJ for 20 years. He then worked another 20 years before retiring in 1999 from PSE&G where he was the supervisor of their Central Maintenance Shop Turbine and Fabrication Division. Arnold enjoyed playing the trumpet and was in the band called “Rudy’s Diamonds in the Ruf” with his brother Rudy for many years. He was most recently in a German band with his friends called “The Joe Unger Band.” In his younger years he enjoyed playing soccer for the Kolping Society and always loved to travel. He is survived by his daughter, Margot Pedoto and her husband Thomas; his grandchildren, Danielle and her husband Matthew Fagnan, Christina Pedoto, Andrew and Alyssa Ruf; great-grandchildren, Thea & Odin Fagnan. He is also survived by his brothers Rudy and wife Elfriede Ruf, Ernst and wife Barbel, his sister Rita and husband Heinz, sister-in-law Elfrieda Mayer, sister-in-law Susan and her husband Michael Fredericks, and many nieces and nephews. Arnold is predeceased by his wife Andrea (2020), former wife Frieda (1983), his son Arnold, Jr (2018), and his brothers Erich and Josef Ruf. In respect of his family’s wishes, Arnold will be privately cremated. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church on 775 Main Street. Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
