Obituary for Emil M. Madonna Jr.

Emil Madonna, a lifelong resident of Garfield, on Jan 18th, he was 98. Emil was born in Palermo, Italy on Sept 12th, 1918 to Emilo and Annette Madonna. In 1920 as an infant, he was brought to the US through Ellis Island, first living in NY, then Passaic and then settling in Garfield in 1946. On Sept 23, 1939 Emil married Theresa DiDino at St. Mary's Church in Passaic. He entered the US Army in 1942 and was seriously wounded on the beach in Normandy, which earned him a Purple Heart; he was honorably discharged in 1946. In 1981 he retired from Givaudan Flavors in Clifton. Emil was a very active and proud member of the Garfield VFW Post 2867, where he served in many capacities throughout the years. He was also very proud of the work he did in organizing the annual Parade and had even been the Grand Marshall on several occasions. Emil had also been an active parishioner Holy Name Church in Garfield, where he also served as a Hospitality Minister (Usher). Emil is survived by his beloved children Janet Pisciotto and Ted Sondej. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Emil was predeceased by his beloved wife Theresa, his daughter Terry, his 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Visiting 4-6 Sun, Jan 22nd, Warner-Wozniak Funeral Service, 80 Midland Ave, Wallington. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 am, Mon at Holy Name Church, 99 Marsellus Pl. Garfield. Emil will be laid to rest with his wife Theresa at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Lodi. In lieu of flowers Donations to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital are encouraged and appreciated. WarnerAndWozniak.com
