Obituary for Carol V. Tlusty (Kopec)

Carol (Kopec) Tlusty of Wallington, NJ died on March 24th, one week short of her 93rd birthday. She was born on April 1, 1923, one of 5 children, to George and Sophie (Szczech), and raised in Passaic until she moved to Wallington at age 18. She married Emil Tlusty on October 12, 1946 at Most Sacred Heart Church, and enjoyed 66 years with him until he predeceased her in November 2012.
Carol worked as a receptionist at St. Mary’s Hospital, Passaic, for many years. She loved her job, made many lasting friendships there, and was one of the “Belles of St. Mary’s.” Her fondest memory was when she was asked to be an interpreter at the hospital for the visiting Cardinal Karol Wojtyla, now St. John Paul II.
Carol was very active in her faith. She was a devoted parishioner of Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and a founding member of its Columbiettes at KofC Council 3644 and The Rosary Confraternity. In her later years she was also a member of the Wallington Seniors and MSH’s Share and Care Program.
She enjoyed bingo, excursions to Atlantic City, and traveling to such countries as Japan, Poland, and Jamaica. She was an excellent cook and baker, widely known for her rice cake (“Pirog”). Her most cherished role, however, was that of mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. With her warm personality and extended family, her home in Wallington was the center of many family celebrations. She loved to entertain and host parties, but above all to be surrounded by her family. She will be missed and fondly remembered by everyone who knew her.
Carol is survived by her loving children, five daughters and one son and their spouses: Patricia and James Zoll, Kathleen and Dennis Borecki, Deborah and Chuck Geske, Carol Beier, Melanie and Thomas Yannuzzi, and Emil C. and Grace Tlusty. She also adored her nine grandchildren, David, Kevin, Caren, Jason, Stephen, Scott, Melanie, Rachel, and Jordan, and her five great-grandchildren: Jillian, Luna, Emmalyn, James, and Gavin. She is also survived by her brother and sisters-in-law, Chet, and Irene Tlusty and Sylvia Tencza. She was pre-deceased by her parents, and 4 siblings: Bertha, Joseph, Stanley, and Janina.
Visiting on Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 at Warner-Wozniak Funeral Service, 80 Midland Avenue, Wallington, NJ. Funeral Mass 10 AM, Wed, The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 127 Paterson Ave. Wallington. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Lodi, NJ Boys and Girls Club, 460 Passaic Ave. Lodi, NJ 07644, or St. Jude’s Hospital.
