Obituary for Mary Kalemba (Kowalski)

Mary Kalemba of Wallington, NJ, died on August 20th, 2015, she was 90. Mary was born on Feb 17, 1925 in Stany, Poland to Antoni and Tekla (Blondek) Kowalski. In 1940 Mary and her family were taken as prisoners by the Russians Red Army. They were moved to many different camps, including those in Kyrgyzstan, Iran and Africa. After arriving in Kenya, Africa, which was under British control she left Kenya and arrived in England in 1944. Mary served in the (R.A.F.) His Majesty's Royal Air Force to serve in the ongoing war efforts. In 1949 Mary made the move to the United States and arrived in Passaic, moving to Wallington a short time later. In 1959 Mary married her beloved John Kalemba. They were married over thirty years when he died in April of 1990. Mary had worked for the Dexter Knitting Mills as a seamstress in Wallington for many years. She was also a member of the Polish Veterans Association and enjoyed knitting, sewing crocheting and the occasional trip to Atlantic City with her friends. Mary is survived by her beloved sons Mark and his wife Marie Kalemba, Donald Kalemba and her four cherished grandchildren, Stephanie, Cady, Alexander and Brian. Mary is also survived by her devoted sister Emilia Bednarz, and many nieces and nephews; she was predeceased by three brothers. Visiting Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 pm, Warner-Wozniak Funeral Service, 80 Midland Ave, Wallington, NJ a funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 AM, Monday at The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 127 Paterson Ave, Wallington, NJ.
