Obituary for Salvatore Walter Catania

Salvatore Walter Catania
Salvatore Walter Catania, on August 15th, 2015, a lifelong resident of Wallington, NJ, passed peacefully, in the arms of his loving parents, with his beloved companion and dog “Pepe” laying on his lap. Sal passed after a seven year heroic and brave fight with an illness; Sal was 14 years old. Sal was born on December 19th, 2000 in Hackensack, NJ to Salvatore R. Jr., and Alice Jean (Zagleski) Catania. He was raised in Wallington, and although he was cheated out of years, Sal lived a full and active life. He learned to hunt and fish with his father and was an amateur “Sharpshooter,” skilled in the use of pistols, rifles and shotguns. He played for the Wallington Little League and was a “Home Run Hitter.” He was Wallington New Jerseys very first Police Chief for the Day in 2010, and has been granted the distinguished title of “Retired Chief” every year since. All who knew Sal would tell you that his smile was infectious, his humor was second to none and his presence would light up a room. During summer recess from school Sal would work with his father at his construction company. He started by cleaning up job sites and tools and also learned how to effectively operate a bulldozer and backhoe. He became instrumental when he learned how to help his father clear building lots, grade, level and dig. As Sal was spiritually preparing himself, he asked his mom if he could receive his Confirmation, and he was Confirmed the week after Easter. Sal was beloved by so many people who have become adopted family members and fondly called them, Aunt and Uncle, and considered the younger ones to be cousins. Sal is survived by his devoted and cherished parents, who never left his side Alice and Salvatore R. Catania. He is also survived by his God-parents Raymond Alongi and Maria Sasiadek; and his three closest longtime childhood friends Marc and Mariah Beeler-Hope and Brittany Sasiadek. Sal was predeceased by his maternal grandmother Jean Zagleski on January 25th, and grandfather Walter Zagleski. He is also predeceased by his paternal grandfather Salvatore Catania Sr. of Clifton. Visiting 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 pm, Wednesday, August 19th, 2015 Warner-Wozniak Funeral Service, 80 Midland Ave, Wallington, NJ 07057. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 am, Thursday, August 20th, at The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, 127 Paterson Ave, Wallington, NJ. Interment will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery in South Hackensack. WarnerAndWozniak.com
