Donald “Scotty” Forrester of North Arlington, since 1949, died on Aug 11th, he was 88. Scotty was born in Jersey City on Feb 5, 1924 to William and Grace (Hanlon) Forrester, and raised in Hoboken and Jersey City. In Dec of 1942 Scotty entered the US ARMY and served in WWII as a decorated combat veteran (Bronze Star). During the war he served as a medic with the Cannon Company, 397th Infantry, 100th (Century) Division, 7th Army. He landed in southern France on 20 Oct 1944; and participated in campaigns in Marseilles, through the Vosges Mountains, the Seigfried Line and into southern Germany. He participated in the liberation of the French town of Bitche, thus becoming one of the “Sons of Bitche.” He was named Chevalier of the French Legion of Honor, and received the French Legion of Honor medal at a ceremony at the US Military Academy at West Point, on May 8th of this year. After returning from the war, Scotty worked at various factories, before working for the US Postal Service in Kearny, NJ for 28 years. On Sept 13, 1947 he married Blanche (Kielar) at St. Stanislaus Polish National Catholic Cathedral, Scranton, PA. Blanche predeceased Scotty after nearly 63 years of marriage on May 1, 2010. Scotty had been an active parishioner of the Church of the Transfiguration- Polish National Catholic Church in Wallington since 1961, a member of YMS of R and served as an usher. He was also a self-taught drummer and played in a group called the “Farmer Boys” for over thirty years. Scotty is survived by his loving daughter Linda and her husband Richard Pregmon, of Crest Hill, IL; his son Donald S. and his wife Diane (Klamerus) Forrester of Succasunna, NJ and his daughter Jane Forrester of North Arlington, NJ. He is also survived by his four cherished grandchildren and his four great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
